Day 6 - Lake Tekapo
From Mount Cook, we drove 1.5 hours to Lake Tekapo. The route to Lake Tekapo is another scenic one. Just look at the pictures. They are taken along the way. While friend was driving, I was busy clicking away. That's why you can see reflections in some of the photos.

Lake Tekapo is a very small town and very "homey" to me. There are a number of restaurants here, a souvenir shop, a bakery, a supermarket and a few hotels/motels/hostels.
As we reached earlier than the check in time, we parked our car at the Lake Tekapo Scenic Resort which was where we will be staying and went to visit the Church of the Good Shepherd for some photography to kill time. It was about 10 minutes walk from the town center. The pictures were taken as we walked to the Church and the Church area itself.
This was where we stayed and the picture next to it was nearby.
The petrol cost here was slightly cheaper than Mount Cook, at NZ$2.149 per litre.
After checking in, we had our fish and chips lunch at The Godley Hotel's cafe. They had a lunch promotion and the fish and chips was only NZ$10.
After lunch, we drove to Mount John. It was a short distance away but the drive up was steep and the road was quite narrow.
These are taken from the top of Mount John. It was really beautiful.
They have a cafe up there.

We went back to the Church in the evening to take some sunset shots.
I noticed that in most NZ travel itineraries, Lake Tekapo was merely a short stopover and does not include an overnight stay. If you are on a self drive holiday, be sure to spend a day here. Just relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.
