Mountain House, Arthur's Pass, NZ

We arrived at Christchurch around 1.50pm and decided to take a slow drive and stay a night at Arthur's Pass before we head off to the West Coast the following day. So we booked our beds at Mountain House Hostel which is about 2 hours drive from Christchurch.

Next to the hostel is the Arthur's Pass Store, a petrol station and a cafe. There are a few more cafes along the road but the place is pretty quiet. It is recommended that you buy your food and cook here as the number of cafes available here is very very limited.

This is the Mountain House Hostel. The hostel does not provide free wifi or breakfast. Parking is available free of charge at the hostel's compound.

There are enough bathrooms and they are very clean, well, at least for the bathrooms at my area which is behind the main block. There are a few more bathrooms inside the main block.

That's my room. I was lucky to have the whole room to myself. It's a little cramp for a 4 bedded room. There are no lockers in the room. Heater is provided but it took a long long time to warm up. Powerpoint is limited too. I have no complaints about the bed. It's really comfortable.

The kitchen and dining hall is pretty big and spacious. It's also very clean here. If you need extra powerpoint to charge your device, you can come to the dining hall for the extra power point.

There is a lounge and TV room upstairs and it looks like a cosy area though I didn't have the time to hang around there. This hostel is generally a nice place if you need to sleep over for a night in your journey between the east and west coast.
