Day 1
26Oct2008, the day we flew to Bali via Air Asia with friends and their family.
The air stewardess gave us the wrong immigration form to fill so we had to recomplete the forms on arrival. While waiting for the rest, we took some photos of the Bali Denpasar Airport.
The road leading to our hotel (Jalan Legian) was closed on the day of our arrival for some festival celebrations. We didn't know about it. There was no other way to access the hotel so we ended up walking about 20 minutes to our hotel. I was still so happy posing for the camera. My friends were already grumbling all the way.....
Finally we reached our hotel at Jalan Legian, Adi Dharma Cottage where we stayed for the next 3 nights.
The cottage doesn't have any elevator. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Requests were attended to immediately. Nice environment. Although it is located on the busy Jalan Legian, the area is quite peaceful and quiet for rest at night.
That's our triple sharing bedroom. The room is very spacious and clean. A lot of mosquitoes though.
The bathroom and the balcony.
We had our simple lunch at the hotel's restaurant and there were a lof of flies around, very irritating. While my friends were having lunch, the princess was waiting to be served....haha...
The procession outside the hotel.
Our first shopping in Jalan Legian, Kuta. The road is narrow and there were many cars and motorcycles in Kuta. The whole street has many small shops selling almost the same items, clothings, souvenirs, bags, accessories etc. You need to bargain hard here. We usuallly bought our stuffs for 50% or less after the bargain. The branded goods are at fixed price. We also came across a very cheap massage salon for 20,000 rupiah per hour. We didn't manage to try as the shop only has one staff and she was already occupied with two customers.
Our first dinner was at Mama German's Restaurant. They serve western food here. Apparently they are popular for their hotdog/sausage.
We continued shopping at Legian Street after our dinner and bought some beach shorts for 15,000 rupiah per pair.
We finally decided to have our massage at Martin Spa & Salon in Jalan Benesari No.1 Legian, Kuta. The price is reasonable. The body massage was 45,000 rupiah per hour. The girls were so good that we kept coming back for the next 2 nights until we know them quite well. We also tried their cream bath (hair spa) but they are not well trained to wash and blow the hair like the hair salon back home. I guess their expertise is in massage only.
Day 2
The next morning we had our buffet breakfast at Adi Dharma Hotel. In Adi Dharma, you have a choice of ala carte breakfast at the cottage or the buffet breakfast at the hotel which is about 3 minutes walk behind the cottage. We chose to have the buffet for the first 2 days and tried the ala carte on the last day. The buffet choices are very limited and as usual, the flies really spoilt my appetite.
Today we will visit Kintamani. We hired a driver for 2 full days to bring us around in Bali. We passed by the bomb victims memorial in Jalan Legian, Kuta on our way to Kintamani. Our driver brought us to Kampung Bali for shopping in the morning before heading to Kintamani. According to him, this place is newly opened, the price is reasonable and many locals, especially from Jakarta will shop here. We didn't buy much here because we felt that the price is more expensive than the stalls outside. I bought a T-Shirt for 21,900 rupiah. The same dress that we bought for 25,000 rupiah outside is sold for 40,000 here. Moreover, the prices here are fixed. If you do not have the time to shop around for the best bargain, then this is the place because you can get many things here like clothings, bags, crafts, paintings etc.
We continued our journey to Kintamani and we stopped by the local silversmith and local woodcarver factory.
Next, we reached Kintamani and have our lunch there. The buffet lunch costs 70,000 rupiah. It was drizzling the whole day and was quite foggy so we didn't managed to have a good view of Kintamani that day.
Our next stop was shopping at Tampak Siring. There are many vendors selling bananas and vegetables here at the car park area. If you do not have intention to buy, do not look at them, point or ask them anything, else they will follow you around and pester you to buy from them. The shops here sell similar products too but beware because when you buy from one stall, the owners from the next and nearby stalls will quote you some 5,000 rupiah less for the same item and try to persuade you to buy the same item from their stalls.
After the shopping, we stopped by to admire the Tegalalang Rice Paddy field. It was still drizzling and we moved on quite soon after.
Next, shopping again but this time it is at Sukawati Market. There are many stalls here and most of them close at around 5.30pm.
Our guide dropped us at Seminyak for our night shopping before dinner. It was only about 7.00pm. The prices here are more expensive than all other places that we've been. We didn't really enjoy our shopping here. Not only was it expensive, it was also difficult to bargain.
We had our dinner at Warung in Kuta that night. The pizza here is delicious.
Day 3
This morning, we asked our driver to stop by the Kuta Beach for a while before heading to Ubud. The beach is clean and beautiful and the waves are big too.
Kuta Beach Road.
Our first stop is shopping at Ubud Market.
The Ubud Palace (Puri Saren) is just opposite the Ubud Market.
Next, to Bedugul.....
After the shopping, we proceeded to Bedegul to visit the Candi Kuning Temple. But first, we had our buffet lunch in Bedegul. The buffet at this restaurant in Ulun Danu cost 60,000 rupiah and is the worst buffet that I ever had in my life. There were only about 6 choices including the soup. No fruits. Food in the tray is so little and cold. Never never come here.....
That's Candi Kuning. The temple is located in a very serene lake. The whole area is very scenic and peaceful.
Arrgh! I can't reach the flowers!
Coming up....it's Tanah Lot.
From the car park all the way to the Tanah Lot temple are many stalls and shops selling a variety of souvenirs including clothings and paintings.
Tanah Lot Temple. We didn't enter the temple. We just hang around outside the area, admiring the beautiful sunset and the strong waves.
We had our last dinner in Bali at Made's Warung, recommended by our driver. We also invited our driver for dinner with us. The environment here is nice. Food price is about 55,000 rupiah for the 1/2 roast chicken and 40,000 rupiah for club sandwich.
We also celebrated our friend's birthday here and took a photo with our driver.
Day 4
Our last day in Bali. We had our last walk in Kuta before we pack up and leave. Had a close look at the memorial and shop around Poppies II. There are some shops selling cheap DVDs in Legian St. and Poppies II. One DVD is 10,000 rupiah, if it is a series like CSI then it depends on the number of DVDs for the series. Each is 10,000 rupiah.
One last walk at Legian St. (Jalan Legian).
On our way back to Denpasar Airport, our driver stopped us at Kuta Beach for a last look.Bye Bali...See you again....
