8D7N Seoul & Jeju - Sept 2008: Part I

Day 1
We took Cathay Pacific and took off from Changi Airport on a Friday morning, 19 Sept 2008. Our flight was 8.05am with around 2 hours transit in HK. We arrived at Incheon Airport at around 6pm on the same day.

We checked in at Incheon Airport Guesthouse for the night. Do check out the hostel reviews in my blog too. This hostel is about 5 minutes drive from Incheon Airport and they provide free return airport transfer. This place is good if you need to stay overnight for the next flight out the next day. There is nothing much to do around there.

Day 2
The next morning is the flight to Jeju. As the hostel only provide transfers to Incheon Airport, we had to take the airport limousine bus from Incheon to Gimpo Airport for the domestic flight. There are two types of airport limousine bus i.e. the deluxe and the standard. We opted for the standard bus that cost 5,000 won compared to 6,500 won for deluxe. The journey is about 40 minutes.

Checked in at Jeju Air counter for our flight to Jeju. The staffs do speak English but very limited. Surprisingly we were advised that our flight back from Jeju will be 10 minutes earlier. This is something new to us as we only heard of delayed flight but not the other way round. What's the opposite of 'delay'? Anyway, we checked in smoothly and had our breakfast at the restaurant while waiting for boarding. The food is quite reasonably priced.

Jeju Air is a budget airline and we were surprised that they served us orange juice onboard.

Upon arrival at Jeju International Airport, we went to the Avis counter with our car reservation confirmation letter. After some checking we were directed outside to take the Avis shuttle bus to their office which is about 5 minutes away. Wow, lots of people renting with Avis! The bus was very packed.

After collecting our car from the Avis office, we headed to the first stop - Yongduam Rock or Dragon Head Rock. It was named so as the shape of the rock looks like a dragon....do you see it? Me neither....

Next we checked in at Hana Hotel at Jungmun Resort. We chose Hana Hotel as that was the only 3 star hotel in Jungmun Resort and is near to our Teddy Bear museum...that was a must see for us as we love teddy bears.

Lotte Hotel was just next door but we chose to drive next door instead so that we do not have to come back to the hotel to get the car. We took some photographs at the garden of Lotte Hotel. Heard that it was very beautiful and was a filming location for one of the Korean drama, I think it's "All In".

Next is to Teddy Bear museum, next to Lotte Hotel. The entry ticket was 6,500won. We had a lot of fun there, taking pictures with all the teddy bears. Felt so young once again. Of course looking so kiddish to the rest of the people around us. Don't care...

We were lost for a while looking for Jusangjeoli, another supposedly interesting rock formation. We thought our GPS was not working as it didn't recognized the telephone number that we entered for Yongduam Rock earlier and we relied on the road signboads which doesnt help and the direction from the tourism office which is not that helpful for us as we had some problem understanding their English. Anyway here's Jusangjeoli. We didnt have anymore time left for Yeongmeori Coast and Mt Sanbangsan so we headed to the E-Mart, next to the Jeju stadium for shopping and dinner at the food court. That was the first day.

Day 3
The second day at Jeju, we left to continue with Day 1's itinerary before heading to the east. We went to Mount Sanbangsan and Yeongmeori Coast. Both are at the same place and are just opposite each other. After that we visited Sangumburi Crater and Mini Mini World which happens to be in the same area as well. Mini Mini World is about 5 minutes drive from Sangumburi Crater. The next destination is Seongsun Ilchubong or Sunrise Peak. We spent quite sometime here and had wanted to climb all the way up the peak but gave up 3/4 of the way as our legs were hurting. I'm sure the view from the top must be breathtaking. Anyway, we left for the last spot which is Seopjikoji before we went back to Lotte Hotel for the volcano show at 8.30pm. The volcano show started at 8.30pm for half an hour and was really disappointing.

Jeju is a beautiful island and is very much like Hawaii. It has a lot of scenic rocks, sea and mountain views and at the end of the day, they all look similar. It's easy to drive around provided you have the GPS. Following the signboard can be quite misleading at times. That was the end of our 3D2N trip to Jeju, though a little disappointed that we could not cover more, we are happy with the places that we have visited.
